EgyptAir is going to set a brand new route to Washington DC in June. The route will be operated by B787 aircraft. According to sources EgyptAir has ordered 6 aircraft, and these are scheduled to be delivered throughout 2019 according to leasing agency AerCap.

There are currently no other airlines operating direct flights between Cairo and Washington. This means that Egyptair will have exclusive operation of flights with no competition when the launch later this year. The airline already operates flights to New York, having previously also operated flights to Los Angeles.

EgyptAir – A Brief Introduction

EgyptAir is a fairly well-established airline. The African airline was founded from 86 years ago on June 7th 1932. Back then the airline was known as Misr Airlines as Misr is the Arabic word for Egypt. Back then the airline was started with just a de Havilland DH84 Dragon.

The airline has gone on to grow over the year, now operating a fleet of 54 aircraft according to AirFleets.net. This ranges from A320s and B737s, all the way up to B777s. Indeed, the airline is expecting a number of new aircraft including the B787s which will be used for the Washington service later this year.

12 Hours To Washington

Launching the B787 route from Cairo to Washington will see EgyptAir operating two new overnight flights. Indeed, the return flight will land back in Cairo two calendar days after it departs. In reality, however, this equates to 30 hours.

According to schedule information held by Google Flights, the B787 will depart from Cairo three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. The return leg from Washington DC will run on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday.

schedule of flight:

MS981 is set to depart Cairo at 2300 local time. After a 12 hour 10 minute flight, the aircraft will touch down in Washington at 0510 local time the next day.

MS982 is scheduled to depart Washinton at 1200 local time. After a 10 hour 50 minute flight, the aircraft is set to land in Cairo at 0450 local time the next day.

5th North American Route

The route to Washington will be the fifth of North American route to have been served by EgyptAir. It will be the fifth route but in fact it will be the third current route. Historically, Egypt Air has operated flights to Los Angeles and Vancouver. However, the airline currently just serves the destinations of New York and Toronto in North America.

As part of the Star Alliance since 2008, the airline operates with a number of codeshare partners in the area of North America. These includes Air Canada and United Airlines. It wouldn’t be unexpected for EgyptAir to offer new codeshare destinations from Washington. The new route is already on sale starting at £610 one way during the first two weeks, increasing to £694 thereafter. However, at the present moment in time, there is no availability on flights now.
